Mr. McCloskey is a trusted legal advisor for businesses of all sizes, commercial and residential real estate professionals, property management companies and investors throughout Pennsylvania. Mr. McCloskey advises businesses on entity formation and articles of incorporation, contract drafting, commercial transactions, asset purchase agreements, employment contract drafting and negotiation, as well as provides general business consulting and litigation services for various industries. Attorney McCloskey has provided legal services to businesses, including tech start-ups founded by Carnegie Mellon University alumni, commercial enterprises, health care facilities, non-profit corporations, and banking/finance organizations. Emerging businesses and established companies alike trust Mr. McCloskey to help them achieve their goals and objectives in a timely, creative and cost-effective manner.
Mr. McCloskey is a licensed Pennsylvania realtor with extensive family experience and contacts in the real estate investment and construction industries. He combines his practical “know-how” of the Pittsburgh real estate market with a strong knowledge base of the up-to-date laws of buying, selling and leasing properties to assist landlords, developers, brokers, agents, buyers and sellers in both in the courtroom and as a negotiator in transactions. Mr. McCloskey has successfully represented property owners and investors in residential and commercial real estate acquisitions, zoning and land use appeals before the City of Pittsburgh Zoning Board of Adjustment, property tax assessment appeals in Allegheny County and Washington County, lease preparation and negotiations, property holding company structuring, landlord-tenant disputes, quiet title actions, debt collection due to unpaid rent or property damage and general consulting services.
In Mr. McCloskey’s Estate Planning Practice, he advises both individuals and business owners on the planning and preparation of Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, Health Care Powers of Attorney, and Living Wills. Mr. McCloskey works with individuals in preparing asset protection and business succession plans. Throughout the probate process, McCloskey assists his clients with the gathering of the decedent's assets and other property, paying debts and obligations, preparing and filing court documents and implementing the wishes of the decedent for distribution to the rightful heirs.
Prior to joining Meyer Darragh, Mr. McCloskey served as a judicial law clerk at the office of Washington County Court of Common Pleas Judge Damon Faldowski and also performed work for President Judge Katherine Emery. This judicial clerkship provided valuable practical insight regarding how the Pennsylvania state courts operate and the best practices of trial attorneys. McCloskey earned his J.D. from Duquesne University School of Law. He received his undergraduate degree from Washington & Jefferson College, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He is a graduate of Peters Township High School in the South Hills.
For the past four years, McCloskey has volunteered as the Attorney Advisor for the Peters Township High School Mock Trial Team, where he teaches high school students the basics of our legal system and practical skills such as public speaking, persuasive writing and storytelling. He has also volunteered for the Allegheny County Young Lawyer Association’s “Stepping Out” Program, where he speaks to high school students in the Pittsburgh area about their legal rights and responsibilities upon turning 18. McCloskey enjoys athletics and fitness, participating in Meyer Darragh’s basketball team, which competes against other law firms associated with the Allegheny County Bar Association. He resides in South Fayette with his wife, Cara.
