Recent Jury Trials Experience• |
Richter v. Heneks, et al.-(United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania-January, 2019) Defended former district attorney on claim brought under Section 1983 sounding in false arrest. Plaintiff was involved in a single vehicle accident in which the other occupant died. Both driver and passenger were intoxicated and plaintiff was ultimately charged with and acquitted of vehicular homicide. Plaintiff sued the district attorney and the investigating Pennsylvania State Police officer claiming that there was no probable cause to arrest her for the crime. The jury returned a verdict in favor of both defendants. |

O'Connor v. BMW of North America-(Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County-September, 2018) Defended automobile manufacturer in claims brought under the Pennsylvania Automobile Lemon Law, the federal Magunuson-Moss Warranty Act, and the Pennsylvania Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law. Plaintiff claimed that she purchased a new vehicle with multiple non-conformities which could not be repaired. She also alleged that the manufacturer illegally interfered with a settlement which plaintiff had negotiated with the dealer. A verdict in favor of the manufacturer was entered on all claims. |

McKenzie and Donaldson v. Somerset County, et al.-(United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania-November, 2017)-Represented Pennsylvania county in trial in which two former employees brought claims alleging a hostile work environment under Title VII and a violation of their substantive due process rights. The employees claimed they were the subject of both verbal and physical sexual harassment by another employee at the work place and that the county was aware of the harassment. After trial, a verdict in favor of the county on all claims was entered by the jury.

Up Close and PersonalJeff has been practicing law for nearly a quarter century, primarily focusing on the defense of major corporations in suits brought in the state and federal courts of Pennsylvania and West Virginia. He has successfully tried cases to verdict in many of the county and United States courts throughout the region. Those cases have been wide ranging, arising from claims arising from alleged violations of plaintiffs’ civil rights, to claims associated with the purchase of automobiles under various statutes, to industrial accidents, and transportation related injuries. Regardless of the type of matter, he has been successful in taking his clients’ cases to juries and securing verdicts on their behalf.
Jeff is a lifelong resident of the Pittsburgh area, having been born and grown up in the Allegheny Valley. After having completed his undergraduate education at Penn State, he was awarded his law degree from Duquesne University. After a short stint working for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Jeff entered private practice, at first as a sole practitioner and then with Meyer Darragh. He has gained wide ranging experience in representing his various clients on a multitude of legal issues.
Jeff currently lives in southern Butler County with his wife, Debra, and two children. He has been active in his community, serving as a coach and board member of various youth athletic organizations. |
